The 6 GUYS In My Head

About the strip

NEW!!! Comic Genesis has added a Wiki database. Click here to see the 6 GUYS entry, or even add to it!

We all hear those little voices in our heads. Sometimes you can even visualize them. For cartoon characters, it's the angel and devil on the shoulders. For Ally McBeal, there was music and fantasies. For April, it's the "imaginary, floating, wiser" version of herself.

For me, it's six persons at a dark conference table. And this is what goes on at the table.

Update: I never thought too deeply about influences, but definitely the "Osmosis Jones" cartoon spin-off "Ozzy & Drix". A kid Mayor for the City of Hector? That's essentially what this is. With maybe some "Matrix" bits added.

Paul Taylor touched on this on 9/12/2001 in his strip Wapsi Square...
Monica's Committee-Head

I'm still running Saturdays-only, with certain special dates. I don't have enough ideas for the shorter Tue-Thu jokes.

Me, somewhatAbout Brian (the creator/artist):

If you want to learn about me, I suggest taking the link on the left menu that says "Brian's Site". Why copy a work of art?

NEW!!! Authors get Wiki pages as well.

About Christian (the colorist from 1/1/2005 to 9/10/2005):

Christian P. Carrera is from Cavite, Philippines and is 26 years old. He graduated with a course in Drafting Technology/Architecture Design. He learned the art of graphics design after quitting his daytime job which was just 6 months ago. Prior to this he was a CADD Draftsman and had worked as a Junior Architect on a small Architectural firm.

He now works as a colorist for Infinity Uprising and Dynamos.

Philosophy: Reflections at my 8-month mark (Fri 5/7/2004)

I can't believe it -- the site actually gets hits -- and repeat business, too!

Obviously I'm better at writing jokes than drawing, and better at jokes than drama or real engaging stories.

And the artwork? Why glorified stick figures in 16 color and a size of 640 X 480? Mostly my love for old technology. (Come see the 1992 IBM PS/2 that still runs... Win95!) Part of it was inspiration -- especially The Adventures of the Boy With Immovable Hair. Great stuff.

But I'll admit part of it is because like everyone, deep down I want to break some rules. And I have; those unwritten rules about what a comic strip should be. Go to How Not To Run A Comic for examples.

Some of those rules were also proper HTML coding, but I decided to finally upgrade my code and follow some standards, which will actually make maintaining the site easier, especially if I ever want to overhaul the design (don't hold your breath).

The downside is I'm already hitting the wall. I had a very creative run in February-March, and now I've got a huge buffer but no ideas for afterwards. Also, although my readership has made leaps and bounds in March and April, I think it's bound to hit it's peak. I'm afraid this comic will die slowly over the summer, both from my end and the reader's end.

Update (6/1): I came up with some great stuff in May. Now my comic buffer lasts until 2005. And I've got something else (for the site) in the works. Maybe I should update more frequently.

And what really pisses me off about my own work is that if it weren't for Keenspace (and my actual readers -- thank you!), I know I wouldn't be able to keep a fixed schedule. Even if I made the strips ahead of time, I'd always forget to upload on the right day, etc. With AutoKeen, I don't have to think about it, so I focus more on making the strips and can actually get them done -- well in advance. I'm so irresponsible.

So, dear readers, thank you for your wonderful patronage. I'll keep trying, and probably come up with something good. Hopefully I can get a full-time job and make a story arc about moving into my own place or something. But if I lose you, best wishes.

--Brian

Promotion:

Now that I have a colorist, things are good. But if you are an artist and want to actually DRAW the comic, let me know.

Any college or "underground" newspaper that wants a cheap (er, free) yet somewhat legible comic should contact me via the same... I keep the double-size originals (they're still only 16 color, though).

Anyone who wants to merchandise -- same deal. I'm willing to listen to any offer, but reserve rights to reject them or negotiate.

And anyone who wants to call me a "sell-out", well, maybe I am, but at least I'm trying my hand at this after years of wishing. (Not for a comic, per se, but a regularly-updated humor thingie for the masses.)

Awards & Things:

(My personal site came out about the same. And some say I'm evil; I'm so evil I can hide it from everyone!)
